3 on the tree shifter
Im sure a few of you are thinking whats the big deal Ive seen lots of cars with column shifts Park Drive Reverse right. Explanation of three on the tree aka column shifting found in classic cars.

Course those cheap aftermarket floor shifters werent much better. Took the column out and apart slowly. After new bushings and re-aligning everything it still bound up from time to time.

I like it a whole lot better than the column shift even when the column shift is working perfectly. And up at the top of the column it wasnt unusual for the shift lever housing shift bowl to be worn or broken. Have a look at the cab mounts.
3 on the tree I have a 1970 chevy c10 with a similar problem i ggreased the fitting on the column under the hood and worked the shifter around a few times and eventually it shifted smooth as silk. Just think of the 3 speed pattern turned vertical with the column. The tunnel is dimpled already to take the fixings for the shifter.
